History-Kolkata (formerly calcutta) is the capital of west bengal. It was an indian capital under
british ruling from from 1773-1911. Today it is famous for for architecture, art gallery and cultural festivals.
Places to visit- 1) victoria memorial- It is constructed in 1906 and prince of wales laid the foundation stone of this memorial. Great mueseum for art and indian history.
2) Howrah Bridge- The most famous bridge at the bank of river hooghly commissioned in 1943.
On 14th june 1965 it was renamed rabindra setu after the great bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.
This bridge is currently the sixth longest bridge of its type in the world.
3) Dakshineswar kali Temple- The temple was built in 1855 by rani rashmoni, a devotee of kali,
the temple is famous for his association with Ramkrishna.
4)Indian Mueseum- It is the oldest and largest mueseum in india andhas rare collection of antiques,armour and ornaments. It was founded by the asiatic society of bengal in kolkata in 1814.
5)Kalighat Temple- Kalighat kali templeis dedicated to goddess kali. It is one of the 51 shaktipeeth.
6) Birla Planeterium- It is the largest planeterium in asia and second largest planetarium in the world.
Other Places to visit- Othe places to visit in kolkata are fort william,belur math,eden garden,nicco park, eco park,rabindrasarobar, jorasanko thakurbari,botanical garden,alipore zoo,national library,princep ghat,park street, iskon kolkata and st. john church.
